Ground Control to Major Tom…

Earth form the ISS

For here
Am I sitting in a tin can
Far above the world
Planet Earth is blue
And there’s nothing I can do

Have you ever wondered what Major Tom was looking at? Well now you can, but BEWARE this is a real time stealer!

Those jolly folks at NASA have been kind enough to provide a live feed from the cameras on the International Space Station (ISS). You can watch in real-time what it sees as it whizzes over our heads. I must confess to spending hours watching it with Google Earth up on another machine, identifying where it’s looking.

It circles the globe around 16 times a day and so you can find that when you log in, it might be over an area of Earth that is in darkness. Therefore another essential link ISS Tracker website that show exactly where it is and how long you’ll have to wait.

I found that the best way to view this, is to setup another machine with a large monitor (preferably) and have the feed on it constantly (you can try and spot UFO’s??). You can even do this on a Raspberry Pi is you want.

How cool is that?
